ANGRY Bristol Rovers boss Mark McGhee conducted an hour-long changing-room post mortem with his players after watching them lose 3-2 to Southend United to suffer a fourth successive defeat last night.

McGhee watched his side take the lead through Fabian Broghammer in the tenth minute at the Memorial Stadium, before Southend hit back with goals from Gavin Tomlin and Kevan Hurst just before the break to offer Paul Sturrock's side a slender half-time advantage.

Ryan Cresswell increased Southend's advantage in the 63rd minute with a header from a corner – before David Clarkson converted from the penalty spot to set up a grandstand finish six minutes from time.

Substitute Oliver Norburn was given a straight red-card with three minutes remaining to end any hopes of a comeback, before McGhee held a post mortem with his players in the changing room long after the final whistle.

The manager, who fielded a new-look 4-2-3-1 formation in a bid to end a recent losing run, will now hope his side can halt their poor run of form when Chesterfield arrive at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday after seeing them slip to just one point off the bottom of League Two.

“dickpuller if what you say is correct i am extremely disappointed.
mcghhe was not doing particularly well but i would have given him to the end of the year as i dont really and cant really blame him 100% for what is going on at bs7.
i think one must wait for any news to be confirmed but at the end of the day we all know as supporters of brfc where the blame lies.
suffice it to say that the one constant factor throughout the years has been the board of directors.
how many managers? can they all b wrong?”

“I was going to come up from south devon last night but had to cancel at the last minute. Thank God for that as i would have been steaming with anger coming home. This is all the more frustrating because of the way we finished last season and the high hopes for this. We have got to stick with McGhee but my support for him is wavering.”

“I don't think you've got anything to worry about Frank.

In a normal private business which gained a sudden windfall but then found their big new capital project was no longer viable you could imagine the shareholders making a large distribution to themselves or selling out to a third party and keeping all the money.

But this is Bristol Rovers and the shareholders are all committed Gasheads who are only in it for the love of the club. They may pay themselves back their loans and even the share capital they have put in which they are quite entitled to do. But of course they would leave the rest of the windfall within the club to secure it's future and make sure there was a prosperous Bristol Rovers for coming generations of Gasheads to enjoy.

    Wouldn't they ................................................................?”

“TonyIreland it's sad to think that, though you haven't seen a home game in 36 years, you still send your £10.83 every month to help Rovers but it's not appreciated in the slightest. We all want to help Rovers and make it into a club we can be proud of but we are completely lacking leadership. Mr Higgs may have a lot of money but in my opinion he is a very poor man.

Leaving aside all the problems with the team and manager, which are becoming obvious to everyone now, it's the bigger picture which worries me most. Are we sure that us fans are not going to be victims of the biggest stitch up ever seen in football when the Memorial Stadium is sold ?”

“Point taken Brennus - you are right.

In view of the later remarks and the whole aura of criticism set out after last night's game I have just cancelled my monthly share subscription. Can think of better things to do with the money...

...and we can no longer call upon Cpl Jones to express our feelings DON'T PANIC ! Sad....
