Anger as Bristol bus service is stopped
A disabled bus passenger plans to start a petition against the withdrawal of a Sunday service which served Oldbury Court.
Sally Roberts, 40, says she used to travel on the First number 5 bus on Sundays from the stop in Gill Avenue until it was axed last week.
She says the withdrawal is a big blow and plans to start a petition.
The number 5 Sunday service ran hourly in the mornings and every 30 minutes in the afternoon.
Ms Roberts, who caught the bus to get to work in Emerson's Green and also to go to church, said she would welcome the return of the service, even if it ran every two hours.
Ms Roberts, who suffers from epilepsy and asthma, said: "I work weekends and needed the bus to get to work. I also used it to get to Eastville Market and to get to church. This withdrawal affects a lot of elderly people and people want the service back.
"I want to get a petition going because there is a lot of strong feeling about it."
The number 5 Sunday service ran from the city centre to Downend, via Stapleton, Fishponds, and Oldbury Court. The number 7 route from the city centre to Staple Hill goes via Whitehall and Soundwell.
It was axed after Bristol City Council decided to stop subsidising it and First said that without the subsidy it wouldn't be profitable.
The number 5 and number 7 Sunday and bank holiday services, operated by First, were paid for by a £67,000 grant from the city council and funding of just under £16,000 from South Gloucestershire.
