It was anchors away and splice the mainbrace for a swashbuckling adventure on the high seas in this musical comedy.

Set on a desert island, with the sea of sciatica in the background, the story revolved around the Periwinkle family who become involved with Captain Cod and the Pirate crew of The Curry Bean, led by Cap'n Redbeard.

The whole cast gave a rousing rendition of Pot of Gold and Rebecca Pughe, as Pearl sang Lumbago Lullaby beautifully. Bendict Bird as Admiral Hornhonker showed great comic timing and provided plenty of laughs with his limbo dancing.

The script was sharp and funny with lots of silliness to amuse everyone. There were great comedy characters like the short sighted "Lookout Lofty" (Henry Overton) and great double acts, Wally & Pratt (Harrison Tate & James Scott) and Scuttle and Slack (Oliver Wong and Daniel Spencer).

The ensemble singing was strong, especially during the mermaid sea shanty where the cast were cleverly assembled in the shape of the ship's bow while they rowed and danced the hornpipe.

Dances were provided by Year 2 children as rats, fish and natives from Lumbago all joining in the finale Piratical Style with huge enthusiasm. Congratulations to Butcombe School for one of the best and funniest productions in years.
