The restaurant – famed for its scantily-clad waitresses –  opened in 2010 despite objections from police and public.

Prior to its opening, an anti-Hooters petition containing more than 700 signatures was handed to the Bristol City Council, with the Bristol Feminist Network claiming the restaurant would be a "regressive step" for the city.

Hooters faced further controversy last year when it was alleged that a 3D 'boob cake' was served at a 12-year-old's birthday party.

Hooters other UK chains in Cardiff and Brighton remain open.

The Hooters press office was unavailable to confirm or deny the rumours when This is Bristol tried to call.

However, the sign on the window (see above) seems to say it all.

“despite all the hype the main thing is another business has gone, people have lost their jobs, i went and to be honest you saw more female flesh from the under age girls drunk in the centre trying to get in to the nearest bar that will serve them. seems like another nail in the harbour side coffin to me”

“The biggest tragedy about this being that the awful waitresses that served me on a few occasions may now end up working elsewhere and potentially serving me again :-(
    My highlights:
1.(after using a voucher for a free beer at the bar and waiting 15 mins to be served again whilst the waitress chatted to a regular) "Are you going to pay for this next one yeh?"
    2. "Ohhhh for god's sake, who sat you here, i've got enought tables as it is"
    3. £15 for burger and chips
Worst service i have ever witnessed - no wonder it closed”

“How comfortable would men feel about going to a restaurant called 'BALLS', complete with male waiters dressed only in pants and an emphasis on their very large, protruding balls as they serve up your pasta?
Then they can do a humiliating little dance for every birthday or special occassion for public amusement and female gratification. But it's ok, it's all a bit of fun. There are far seedier balls bars down the road in which the man strip off entirely and flaunt their balls in front of laughing female faces.
We can offer memorabilia of the night, a ball shaped cake or ball-badge.
Turn it around, see how y'all like it!”

“As a Hooters fan i am saddened by this. The Hooters staff were always very good to me and i think there are a couple of things people seem to have over looked.Evey year every Hooters raises thousands for charity,so local Bristol charities will now miss out. Also i happen to know that people would travel from far and wide to visit Hooters so therefore the local hotels will miss out on much needed business and add to that the fact that some 40 good people have lost their jobs,it all seems very unfair. We cannot blame he feminists for the closure but they had no reason to object in the first place and they have no reason to re-joice now.Bristol as a city must have strip/lap dancing clubs so why be offended by Hooters? It makes no sense. You go to a restaurant order your meal, eat it and go home but Hooters is different in the fact that it provides a wide variety of sport together with gorgeous cheer leading waitresses and all in all a great night out. Those who opposed should be ashamed of themselves and offer apologies to the staff, local hotels and charities who are ultimately the losers. They should then put their obvious talents to more pressing problems in our society.I will always support Hooters and i hope it re-opens.”

“Cant see why the Feminists are claiming victory, they lost so much face when it opened and gave up!

It's not their doing it has shut, it's the recession, and the fact that Bristol doesn't do theme bars.

See Hard Rock, Sports Bar, Original Jongleurs and so on.

There are hundreds of Hooters all over the globe, despite what the crooked rib lot are saying, they will continue to employ the better presented members of their species.”

“Perhaps these "feminists" might spend their time fighting the real sexual enemy from now on.

Let's see them close down the massage clubs on Stokes Croft, or is that too close to home?”
