This is the first glimpse of how the fire ravaged Grand Pier looks now demolition work has been completed.

TR Demolition has removed more than 500 tonnes of twisted steel and blackened wood, which was all that remained of the pavilion.

This bird’s eye view was taken from a helicopter this week while the underside of the pier is being sandblasted clean and experts test the supporting metal supports.

The clearance will make way for a new state-of-the-art attraction to be built on the landmark structure next year.

Pier owners Kerry and Michelle Michael are currently scouring the globe looking for new rides and hope to submit new plans to North Somerset Council before Christmas.

It will be based on the selected design by Bristol based architect Angus Meek, chosen out of a shortlist of six to make re-build the Pavilion.

“I have fond childhood memories of the old pier and will not be visiting or taking my children to any new "state of the art attraction"in protest to what is going on.The old pier should be rebuilt exactly as it was.”

“Weston was once a great place before the tramps, drug takers and travelers took control, perhaps the greatest river resort in the uk. I would sooner swim naked at Bristol floating harbor than swim with syringes at Weston”
