Almondsbury Town win to keep up the pressure on league leaders
Almondsbury Town's 1-0 victory at Milton United keeps them in third spot in the Hellenic League Premier Division and maintains the pressure on the top two clubs, Hungerford Town and Shortwood United.
Almonds manager Paul Weeks said: "We made a great start by taking an early lead and dominating the first half, although we failed to add to our lead from a number of good chances.
"Our victory leaves us two points behind the top two sides, who both have two games in hand, but if we can win our final three games that will increase the pressure on the top two."
Almondsbury took the lead in the opening minutes of the game when a good run down the flank and cross by Brad Andrews created the opening for Paul Milsom to score with a left-foot shot low into the bottom corner.
Kane Ingram, Sahr Kabba, Paul Fowler and Andrews all failed to put away good chances of increasing the lead, with Kabba being denied a goal on another occasion by a great save fro the home goalkeeper.
Milsom was unlucky to see a shot hit the inside of an upright and come back into play, while in the second half Ingram and Paul McElvaney both brought good saves from the goalkeeper.
Almondsbury's failure to put away their chances could have cost them in the closing minutes but Milton missed an easy chance.
In the top-of-the-table clash at Shortwood, leaders Hungerford took a first-half lead through Ian Concannon but the hosts equalised through Ben Pugh and then took victory with a goal from Alton Axton.
The victory puts Shortwood level on points with Hungerford, who maintain top spot on goal difference. Both clubs have 85 points, with Almondsbury on 83.
