Shirehampton hit five after opening minute shock
Shirehampton went a goal down in the opening minute of their Somerset County League Premier Division game against bottom-of-the-table Odd Down Reserves but then hit back for an easy 5-1 victory.
They are now five points adrift of table-topping Bridgwater Town Reserves, who were 2-1 winners at Castle Cary.
Manager Steve Winters quickly saw his side get back on terms with a header from George Brimson.
Rich Hewitt gave them a 2-1 lead with a header and then Brimson added a third – his 10th goal in four games after returning from injury with Rob Sage, from close range, and Lee Riches completing an easy victory.
Third-placed Taunton Blackbrook had to battle hared to overcome mid-table Backwell 1-0.
Cutters Friday took an early lead at Cheddar when Harley Purnell crossed to the far post for Ryan Bending to create the opening for Dave O'Reilly to score from close range.
Marco Caple gave away a 35th-minute penalty for Cheddar to equalise and, in the opening minute of the second half, it got worse for Cutters as Cheddar took a 2-1 lead when Matt Hobbs was caught in possession.
Cutters raised their game with Purnell twice being denied an equaliser by fine saves from the Cheddar goalkeeper, but they could not find a way through to save a point.
Cleeve West Town gave themselves a boost with a 4-0 home victory over Nailsea United, which gives them hope of pulling away from the relegation zone, while Mangotsfield United Reserves went down 1-0 at Cossham Street to Watchet Town.
In Division One, leaders St George Easton-in-Gordano came out on top 2-1 after taking a two-goal lead in the opening 20 minutes at second-in-the-table Fry Club, who pulled a goal back in the 75th minute through James Laver.
Laver then failed to take two late chances which could have given Fry's at least a draw.
Brislington Reserves came out top 1-0 in their local derby at Keynsham Town Reserves when a cross from Chris Cowells created the opening for Lee Perks to score.
Third-in-the-table Paulton Rovers Reserves were easy 4-0 winners at Langford Rover, while Stockwood Green were 3-1 winners at Churchill Club.
