Almondsbury Town took their goal tally to 20 in their last four games with a resounding six-goal hammering of visiting Marlow United in the Toolstation League.

The result takes Almondsbury into sixth place, with games in hand on three of the teams above them.

Almondsbury manager Paul Weeks said: "We have been hit by injuries and suspensions but things are now settling down and we are looking a more solid side.

"Although Marlow had a player sent off late in the game the score was already 4-0 by that time."

Ex-Cheltenham Town striker Richard Kear gave Almondsbury the lead in the 20th minute from a Chris Davis pass, and five minutes later Brad Andrews set up Adam Cole, who who was left with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Midfielder Danny Haines made it 3-0 just before half-time with a well-struck drive from the edge of the penalty area with Kear adding a fourth early in the second half.

Marlow then had a man sent off for a foul on Paul Fowler, and Jing Yuan Cai added another goal before Kear completed his hat-trick to send Almondsbury into the Christmas and New Year fixtures in good heart and believing they can catch and overtake the teams above them.

Top-of-the-table Hungerford Town were 4-1 winners at Flackwell Heath through Jamie Gosling, Richie Saunders, Graham Edeny and Tom Fila while second-placed Shortwood United beat Milton United 4-0 with goals from Kacey Johnstone, Andy Hoskins, Matt Green and Alex Allard.

Third-placed Witney Town slumped to a shock 1-0 defeat at Reading Town, a late goal from Graham Lewis making it five successive victories for the hosts.

Winterbourne United continued their revival with an easy 4-1 home victory over Pewsey Vale to continue their climb up the Division One West table.

They are now in seventh place, and manager Stewart Jones is looking for his side to continue winning ways in the New Year.

"If we had taken all the chances we created the scoreline would have been in double figures," Jones said.

Jimmy Potts crossed for Sam Vile to give Winterbourne the lead after 20 minutes, and Vile then returned the compliment, setting up Potts to make it 2-0 10 minutes later.

Chris Gent added a third shortly before half-time following a goalmouth scramble.

Pewsey Vale pulled a goal back early in the second half from the penalty spot after a foul from Mark Nash, but Mark Hughes restored Winterbourne's three-goal advantage.

Tytherington Rocks were 2-0 home winners over Easington Sports.

Steve Thompson gave them an early lead when he followed up to score from close range after an Ollie Clarke shot had been blocked.

They sealed the win when Nathan Irwin put away a cross from Scott Wooder.
