Almondsbury Town boss Weeks tells players to focus
Almondsbury Town boss Paul Weeks has told his players to focus on their own promotion bid and forget about the exploits of bitter rivals Hungerford Town.
Seventh-placed Almonds, who entertain resurgent Reading Town on Saturday, trail Premier Division pace-setters Hungerford by a mammoth 19 points but have four games in hand over the Berkshire battlers.
Weeks, who is without three central midfielders as Paul Fowler and Brad Andrews are both suspended and Andy Proctor injured, is adamant that the in-form Almonds can make up the deficit.
But he stressed: "Some of our lads are worrying too much about what Hungerford are doing instead of fully focusing on what we need to do. There's no question they can be caught, but we can only achieve it if we keep our part of the bargain.
"Reading will be a real challenge for us tomorrow because they've gone on to win 10 and lose only one of their last 12 league games since we beat them (1-0) in the FA Vase."
Seventh-placed Winterbourne United are adamant their 23-goal striker Jimmy Potts will not be signing for Chipping Sodbury Town after the Gloucestershire County League strugglers made a surprise seven-day swoop for his services.
"Jimmy will not be taking a step down, especially when there's a risk of him playing Bristol Premier Combination football with them next season," Bourne boss Stewart Jones said ahead of Saturday's home clash with Trowbridge Town.
Jones will be without Ricky Boulton for six weeks with a broken hand, and fellow midfielder Liam Barrett is also out.
Tytherington Rocks have bolstered their management team with the appointment of Jeff Clark as assistant manager to both their senior and reserve set-ups. Clark led Chipping Sodbury Town into the Gloucestershire County League last season before leaving the club under a cloud early into the new campaign.
Rocks boss Barry Granger, whose team travel to take on Malmesbury Victoria for a Division One West affair on Saturday, said: "Jeff has good knowledge of the local player base and he shares our philosophies. I'm confident he'll play an important role in our development as a club."
Defender Joe Mullins and midfielder Alex Fox are both aboard now after completing their signings from Chipping Sodbury, while Mark Greenland and Adam Keslake return from injury.
