Almondsbury Town aim to sign off with cup final win
Almondsbury Town manager Paul Weeks says a cup final triumph can inspire a 2009-10 promotion-winning campaign.
Despite rattling up 90 points, and winning 11 of their final 12 matches, the Oaklands Park outfit finished fourth in the Premier Division.
But Almonds, last-season's Hellenic SBJ Challenge Cup runners-up, face Carerton Town in this year's final at Shrivenham FC (3pm) on Monday.
"If we can pick up some silverware it will not only be just desserts, given our form of 2009, but it can spark us off going into our next promotion challenge," said Weeks.
Winterbourne United boss Stewart Jones is confident of retaining the services of ace marksman Jimmy Potts, who finished the season with 36 league and cup goals to his name.
Potts is currently helping out struggling Chipping Sodbury Town but Jones said: "I'd like to think Jim will stay with us, as I hope all the lads will, because I'm determined to see us compete more strongly next season."
Barry Granger is coming to terms with the departure of Tytherington Rocks' inspirational centre-half Phil Ward, who is moving away from the area.
"Filling Phil's boots is a priority but I'm talking to a centre-half, a striker and a wide midfielder over the next few days in the hope of tempting them to come to us," he said.
