Martin Allen is still hoping to add to his Cheltenham Town squad ahead of tomorrow's Coca-Cola League One trip to Colchester United.

Allen was in London yesterday holding negotiations with a player about a move to Whaddon Road as he continues his efforts to haul the club out of the relegation zone.

The Robins go to the new Weston Homes Community Stadium bolstered by the return of several players who were unavailable for Tuesday's 0-0 FA Cup third round draw with Doncaster.

Allen had only 14 professionals available for that game, but has four players back, plus the addition of new loanee Nicholas Bignall.

Defender Chris Westwood, on loan from Peterborough, is set for his debut, and with Shane Duff, Drissa Diallo and Gavin Caines out injured, Westwood is set to partner Andy Gallinagh.

Midfielder Lewis Montrose is set for his second debut for the club after coming back on loan from Wigan Athletic, and wide-man Josh Low, cup-tied against Doncaster, is available.

In attack, Ashley Vincent is back after a one-match ban, and Bignall, recruited from Reading, comes into the squad.

Cheltenham beat Colchester 4-3 at home on October 11, but since then the Us have gone on a good run, with seven wins and three draws in 14 games.

John Brough, who has stepped up to assistant manager due to uncertainty over Bob Bloomer's future with the club, will be alongside Allen in the dug out at Colchester as the Robins look to build on Tuesday's battling display against Doncaster.

"Tuesday has lifted everyone, the fans as well," said Brough. "It was a battling performance considering the players we had out.

"We could have won it and been looking forward to playing Aston Villa, but now our thoughts are on Colchester.

"The bonus is that we are able to call on more players so the squad is stronger and we have not got any more new injuries, so we go to an in-form side looking to get something out of the game."

Midfielder Ben Gill has left Cheltenham.

The 21-year old former Arsenal and Watford trainee has reached an agreement with the club over the remaining term of his contract and will be a free agent from Monday of next week.

Gill signed for Cheltenham Town in May 2007 and made three starting and 11 substitute appearances scoring two goals.

“Shame about Ben Gill; thought he was promising and could do a job for us. Hope he gets himdelf a league club as he is clearly good enough for league football.”
