Alex hopes to get even with his dad
It will be a Lippiatt family re-union when Thornbury Town take on B&W Avonside tomorrow.
Thornbury boss Dave Lippiatt already has two of his sons, Ricky and Sam, in his side, but it is his third boy Alex who will be on the end of some stick from the home crowd.
"Alex is the goalkeeper for B&W so that makes Saturday's game a bit unusual," said Lippiatt senior.
"He used to be at Thornbury but couldn't get into the side so joined B&W. Hopefully we can give him a busy afternoon!"
And maybe a sore back from picking the ball out of the back of the net, but dad was too kind to even suggest that.
AXA manager Gavin Tufton finally got his man this week with the return of striker Noel O'Sullivan.
O'Sullivan has been injured recently and is short of match fitness, but he goes straight into the squad for tomorrow's match away to Berkeley Town.
"Noel made a wrong decision when he left us around this time last year to join B&W Avonside and I have been trying to get him back ever since," said Tufton.
"I think the clincher was when his mate Andy Watts joined us a month ago. That swung the balance in our favour.
"Noel has bags of experience at Western League level and it is good to have him back."
Tufton needs to get O'Sullivan scoring goals quickly so that AXA can start climbing the table. Currently sixth, AXA have games in hand on most of the clubs above them but urgently need points on the board.
"Beating Hanham last week was a good result but it is important to put a run together to get back into contention," added Tufton.
Mick Jones and Andy Sledge both return to the squad after missing the Hanham win giving Tufton a full squad to select from.
Henbury boss Jairzinho Wright will be hoping his players survived last night's league cup semi-final against Patchway in order to keep up the pressure at the top of the league.
Last week's 4-0 victory against B&W Avonside lifted Henbury into fifth but there is still an eight-point gap to Ellwood in third place.
"We are rock-solid at the back at the moment and scoring goals so we have to keep that form going," said Wright.
Yate Town Reserves don't play this weekend but manager Paul Dempsey has confirmed he is staying in charge and won't quit following the recent sacking of first-team boss Richard Thompson.
