Former Bristol City forward Ade Akinbiyi is moving to Major League Soccer with the Houston Dynamo.

The club unveiled the player yesterday despite not yet completing the transfer paperwork for the 34-year-old who enjoyed a prolific season with Bristol City in 1998/99.

Akinbiyi's impressive record of 25 goals in 53 starts in his 12 months at Ashton Gate earned him a £3.5million move to Wolves and earned City a three-fold return on their investment.

The striker has signed a deal to join the MLS side but certain terms are still to be finalised, along with his departure from current club Burnley.

Since kicking off his career as a trainee at Norwich City Akinibiyi has played for 11 other Football League sides and incurred £15.25m in transfer fees.

Leicester City snapped him up from Wolves for £5m one year, 36 games and 16 goals after leaving Bristol City but after less than two years the striker's career led him on to Crystal Palace.

Spells with Stoke City and Sheffield United and Burnley followed.

Akinbiyi will travel back to England today to discuss a termination of his contract and could feature in the States as early as this Saturday against D.C. United.

"I was looking for a change," said Akinbiyi. "I am a winner, and I know a lot of people will point to my age, but I feel comfortable with it. I know I have a couple more good years in me."
