The Evening Post has honoured Adam Robson's remarkable summer success with a special award.

Scoring 500 league runs is generally accepted to be a landmark for a club cricketer, on a par with a county batsman reaching the 1,000 mark.

And Robson, a 23-year-old administrator, moved into a different class by scoring 1,100 for Lodway in Division Two of the Bristol and District League.

That total, though, was not high enough to overhaul Stuart Watson's record of 1,212 for Stoke Bishop in 2000.

But The Post decided to mark Robson's superb achievement by presenting him with a bat at the Top 30 gala evening, staged at Old Bristolians Westbury.

Lodway's opponents will be relieved to hear that Robson could soon be heading for pastures new, with Bristol in Premier One of the West of England Premier League.

And the former Frocester player and Gloucestershire junior has still not entirely given up hope of making it into the county set-up.

He said: "It all depends on my job, but if things work out then I am looking at joining Bristol next season. And if I can get myself fit and score a few runs, who knows?

"I've definitely not given up on playing professionally. There are plenty of guys in the first-class game at the age of 35, while I'm still only 23."

Robson describes himself as "not an athlete, I'm built for comfort" and says fitness, or the lack of it, was one of the reasons why he was not asked to join Gloucestershire's Academy several seasons ago.

Another player with a promising future is 16-year-old Gloucestershire prospect Jack Baber, of Bristol West Indians.

Jack won his bat for smashing 194 off 105 balls against Downend in a Premier Two second XI game.

And he dedicated his award to grandparents Glad and Bill Baber, who both followed his cricket career closely before passing away this year.
