Accidents bring chaos to motorways around city
Three people were injured in two separate accidents which brought long delays to the motorway network around Bristol.
In the first, just after 3pm on Friday, a motorcyclist and pillion passenger were both injured in a collision with a car on the southbound M5 near Cribbs Causeway.
The pillion passenger, a woman in her 20s, was flown to Frenchay Hospital by the Great Western Air Ambulance with a suspected fractured pelvis and collarbone. The rider was not seriously injured.
Two Great Western Ambulance Service rapid response vehicles with paramedics were sent straight to the incident, along with the fire service and the police, who closed the motorway.
Later, firefighters had to cut the roof off a car so that paramedics could treat a woman injured in an accident on the westbound M4 involving four vehicles.
The woman, believed to be in her 50s, was removed from the vehicle on a spinal board and taken to hospital by ambulance with suspected spinal injuries following the accident, which happened at about 5.30pm between Hambrook and Almondsbury and had a knock-on effect on traffic on the M4 and M32 until after the rush-hour.
