Merchants' Academy in Withywood is opening its doors to the community on Saturday for a fun-filled day of events and games.

Visitors can try out the Academy's new sports centre, complete with fully fitted gym, Astroturf, tennis courts and exercise classes.

Activities for the day, including archery with the Army, rugby with Bristol Rugby Club, netball on the academy's new courts, dance workshops and cricket coaching.

Phil Collins, community director for Merchants' Academy, said: "This is an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the academy, and offers an opportunity for people to try out the new facilities and meet the teachers."

Construction of the academy, which opened in September 2008, cost £29 million and the school has capacity to take for 1,150 students aged between 11 to 18 years.
