The A380 super jumbo is flying into Filton this weekend.

The plane will arrive at around 4.15pm on Saturday, where the great grandson of Sir George White, founder of the British and Colonial Aeroplane Company at Filton in 1910 will be shown around.

On Sunday, specially invited staff and other guests will be invited to tour the aircraft before it flies to Toulouse at noon.

The plane's wings, landing gear and fuel systems were designed and made at the Filton site, where 5,000 people work.

The flight test aircraft is scheduled to first perform fly-pasts at the airports in Edinburgh and Prestwick, Scotland, followed by a flying display at the Northern Ireland International Air Show at Portrush.

It will then fly past Airbus's facility in Broughton, North Wales, where thousands of Airbus employees will be celebrating the company's founding 40 years ago.

Finally, it will fly past Birmingham International Airport before departing for Filton.

It will be flown by a five-man crew, including Harry Nelson, a former RAF pilot. Also on board will be Thornbury-born Tim Down, Airbus UK's flight test manager, whose team help keep the Toulouse-based fleet of test aircraft in the air.

This weekend also marks the 60th anniversary of the eight-engined Bristol Brabazon. The aircraft made its maiden flight on 4 September, 1949 and its second flight on 6 September.

To date, Airbus has delivered 16 A380 super jumbos since its 2007 launch.
