Would you call 999 if you saw a bike being stolen?
If you saw someone obviously stealing a bike, would you act?
Police have filmed an undercover video where they got a PCSO to test how easy it was for bike thieves to get away unchallenged.
-

They locked up a bike and the PCSO "stole" it in a crowded area on three different occasions using bolt-croppers.
More than 500 people saw him - but how many called the police?

“I was going to say, I saw someone sawing through a bike cable lock a year or three ago, did ring 999.. and got an operator with a distinct "So you think this is an emergency do you?" attitude. Lots of sighing and a slightly narky "thank you very much" at the end of it.
So now we know - if you see a crime, dial 101, or better still, apparently, put it on Facebook.

“Given they make money from those 101 calls (15p per minute I think) isn't this a bit dodgy and abusing people's good nature? I'd hate to be charged for something that turned out to be some awareness raising stunt.”
