92-year-old burgled as she napped in Patchway

A 92-YEAR-old woman was burgled as she took an afternoon nap.

The pensioner was targeted at about 1pm yesterday at her home in the Stoke Lane/Amberley Road area of Patchway.

Avon and Somerset police spokeswoman Jenny Bigwood said: “The lady was taking a nap when two men came into her home through an unlocked door and took cash from her bag.

“She woke and sent them on their way. A blue tipper-type truck was seen in the area recently and we are keen to trace the occupants.”

The burglary happened as police across South Gloucestershire, HM Revenue and Customs and the DVLA were targeting doorstep criminals and rogue traders, offering crime prevention advice to vulnerable elderly people.

Superintendent Keith McCoubrey said: “This week has been about community engagement, where officers raise awareness of these crimes, checking legitimacy of workers tracking vehicles linked to these types of crime.

“We want to remind those people who may be vulnerable to keep their home secure. Don’t forget that it is your doorstep and your decision. If you’re at all unsure of an unexpected caller, don’t open the door.”
