A COUPLE who have lived in Bristol all their lives have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Dennis and Gladys Godfrey were married on July 1, 1949, at St Barnabas Church in Daventry Road.

Mr Godfrey, 83, and Mrs Godfrey, 84, marked the happy occasion on Wednesday.

The Godfreys live at Maynard Close, Hartcliffe, but previously lived in Knowle and Brentry.

Mr Godfrey served in the navy during the war, then had his own cleaning round before working at Avonmouth as a delivery manager.

Before she retired, Mrs Godfrey worked for Imperial cleaning company at Bedminster. The couple have three children, Brian, Jennifer and Michael.

The Godfreys also have seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren, with two more on the way.

In recent years, when their large family isn't keeping their hands full, Mr Godfrey was a member of Knowle Golf Club and they both enjoyed bingo.

Susan Godfrey is their daughter-in-law, and said the happy couple greatly enjoyed their diamond wedding celebrations.

She said: "They have been out with their daughter and son-in-law in Bourton-on-the-Water for afternoon, too.

"On Friday and Saturday the whole family is going to Wooten-under-Edge for the weekend."
