A new path could be created around Backwell Lake.

Backwell Environment Trust (BET), the Friends of Backwell Lake and the village access group are working on plans to install a new pathway right around the picturesque beauty spot.

Currently there is a trodden walkway that has, over the years, become an unofficial path around the lake. The plans would see a new official path created to make it easier for disabled people and mums with buggies and pushchairs to get around the lake.

The project is expected to cost in the region of £20-30,000 and the three groups are now busy applying to local organisations for funding.

If the work gets the green light, the new path could be installed by next spring.

The lake is owned by Wessex Water, which is responsible for its management.

BET member, Andrew Town, said: "We have had some contractors look at the project and are now planning to apply for funding.

"We have spoken to both Nailsea Town Council and Backwell Parish Council to ask for their support for the project.

"Backwell Lake is a well used facility by the local community, and the new path would make the lake far easier for disabled people and mums with young children to enjoy."
