Parents and neighbours are being asked to dig deep to help find a final £10,000 for a new hall at Cotham School.

The school, which is undergoing a multi-million pound revamp, has won an additional £25,000 from the Government for the hall.

But that sum has to be matched pound for pound.

Supporters have already pledged £15,000 and now the school is asking the local community to help find the rest.

In an appeal letter Dr Malcolm Willis, the head teacher, said the hall, part of the school's main building on Cotham Lawn Road which was built in the Thirties was now "showing its age".

"It is at the centre of the building and is one of our most important spaces used by thousands or people every year" said Dr Willis, adding that the hall has hosted "countless school productions, music concerts, open evenings, and we all value it as a central social space".

Cotham School has Specialist Performing Arts college status but the hall is not scheduled for any improvement work as part of the Building Schools for the Future makeover.
