More than £1 million will be pumped into projects to build or improve play areas across South Gloucestershire.

The money has come from the Government's Playbuilder fund and will be used for 24 schemes.

Half of them will be carried out this year, with the rest completed during the following 12 months.

Included in the first round are play areas in St Aldam's Drive, Pucklechurch; Townwell, Cromhall; Canberra Grove, Filton; Gorse Covert, Patchway; Chapel Lane, Siston and the playing fields and play area in Wickwar.

Others to be completed in the first round will be Woodchester Park, Yate; Scott Park, Patchway, Jubilee Green, Bradley Stoke; Page Park, Staple Hill; Little Stoke Park, Stoke Gifford and Brimsham Park in Yate.

People attending the Patchway Festival in Scott Park on Saturday, July 11 will be able to see photos and sketches on how the two play areas could be developed in the scheme.

Officers from South Gloucestershire Council will also be at the event to answer questions and register people's views.

Heather Goddard, the council's executive member for communities, said: "Our plans will benefit communities right across South Gloucestershire and provide children and young people with exciting places to enjoy long in to the future.

"A key feature of the vision is a desire for people in local areas to think more about play and for children and their parents to be involved in the design of these spaces and help to decide what is right for their community."
